Alternative Land Need Scenarios Report and registration for Public Information Centre now available
Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is undertaking a Growth Management Study (GMS) as part of Envision Durham, the Municipal Comprehensive Review of the Regional Official Plan.
The first phase of the GMS is the preparation of a Land Needs Assessment (LNA) to quantify the amount of Settlement Area Boundary Expansion that will be required to accommodate future population and employment growth to the year 2051.
As part of the Land Needs Assessment, a new report is available that outlines additional land need scenarios. A virtual Public Information Centre will be held to provide interested parties the opportunity to learn more and provide feedback on their preferred land need scenario.
Why: In response to comments received from stakeholders on the four draft LNA Technical Reports presented in 2021, Durham Region has identified additional land need scenarios that present a fulsome range of alternatives to inform the decision on how the Region should grow to 2051. These alternative land need scenarios explore at a region-wide scale how housing and population growth could be accommodated, and Employment Area density targets.
When: The report is available as of February 11 and outlines the alternative land need scenarios, the assessment framework that will be used to measure the scenario outcomes, and the timeline for opportunities for public review and feedback.
A virtual Public Information Centre will be held on March 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., which will feature a presentation and the opportunity to ask questions about the proposed land need scenarios. To learn more about the land need scenarios and to register, please visit durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
In addition to the Public Information Centre, a survey is planned for March and more details will be provided.
Where: The Alternative Land Need Scenarios Report is available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
Note: As Council’s core planning document, the Regional Official Plan guides Regional decision-making on long-term growth and development.
Envision Durham is an opportunity to deliver a new forward-looking official plan that will guide growth and change in Durham in the years ahead – providing the blueprint for Durham to become known as the place to live, learn and thrive by 2051.
