Annual farm tour shines a light on local agriculture
Whitby, Ontario – On September 21, the Durham Agricultural Advisory Committee (DAAC) successfully hosted its 21st annual farm tour at Carncroft Farms and Swain Beef. The tour highlighted the contributions of agriculture to the Regional economy, the realities of farming, sustainable environment practices employed by farmers and the high-quality of locally-produced food. Participants also learned about Durham Region’s vital agriculture industry through presentations, hands-on demonstrations and visual displays.
The tour started with opening remarks from DAAC Chair Zac Cohoon, followed by John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham. Franco Naccarato, Executive Director of Meat and Poultry Ontario delivered the keynote address and the participants toured operations at both host farms.
More than 100 participants attended this year’s event, including elected officials, representatives from various levels of government, the educational sector, and public and private agencies.

- DAAC is a volunteer advisory committee that provides advice to the Region on agricultural and rural-related matters. Since the inaugural tour in 2003, DAAC has showcased more than 40 farms and other agricultural facilities, to more than 1,600 participants.
