At Home Incentive Program offers funding and planning services to develop affordable rental housing
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is supporting affordable rental housing development by providing capital funding and Regional planning services, via the At Home Incentive Program (AHIP). This year, $5.75 million in funding is available through the AHIP.
To be eligible for the AHIP, projects must provide a minimum of five affordable housing units. Projects may include:
- New construction.
- Converting a non-residential building to purpose-built rental housing.
- Adding a new affordable building to an existing site.
- Adding new units to an existing building.
- Redeveloping community housing to increase the supply of affordable housing units.

When: The deadline to apply for the AHIP is December 11, 2024, at 4 p.m.
Why: The AHIP supports At Home in Durham, the Durham Housing Plan 2014 to 2024 and the Master Housing Strategy. This is the third AHIP Call for Applications; the previous two Calls for Applications led to $17.7 million in funding, collectively, to help create 209 new affordable rental units in Ajax, Oshawa, Pickering, Uxbridge and Whitby.
