Blue box collection delays in Oshawa and Whitby
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department is advising residents that, due to the extreme cold weather, blue box collection in Oshawa and Whitby may be delayed today.
When: If your blue box materials have not been collected by 8 p.m., they will be collected tomorrow.
Where: Households in Oshawa and Whitby that receive blue box collection service from the Region of Durham.
Why: Extreme cold weather conditions causes some equipment to freeze, and workers require more time to complete their collection routes due to hazardous operating conditions.
Note: For the safety of workers, please ensure waste, blue boxes and green bins are placed in a visible and accessible area. Don’t place waste materials on top of snow banks, and ensure they are not frozen to the ground.
Garbage and green bin collection for Whitby and Oshawa residents is the responsibility of the municipality, not the Region of Durham. Residents are asked to contact their local municipality regarding the collection of these items.
