Book now for Christmas tree collection in Brock, Clarington, Scugog and Uxbridge
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is asking residents in Clarington, Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge to book now to receive curbside Christmas tree collection in January. This booking system is part of a pilot project to help the Region plan more efficient collection routes.
When: Residents can book starting today, December 1. Addresses must be registered by Monday, December 27 at 4 p.m. in order for residents to receive curbside collection of their natural Christmas tree.
Where: The new program applies to residents in the Municipality of Clarington, and townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge only.
How: Residents can book their address through:
- The online waste collection calendar tool at durham.ca/waste.
- The Durham Region Waste App.
- Calling 905-697-5300 or 1-800-667-5671.
Why: By helping the Region plan more efficient collection routes, the pilot project will eliminate the need for collection vehicles to drive down every street to collect Christmas trees. This results in increased efficiencies, cost savings and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Natural Christmas trees will be composted with leaf and yard waste.
Note: Christmas tree collection reminders and requirements:
- All tinsel, decorations, wires, lights and stands must be removed from the tree.
- Trees exceeding three metres (10 feet) must be cut in half for collection.
- Please ensure trees are not buried in snowbanks or frozen to the ground.
- Do not place trees on top of, or behind snowbanks – ensure the tree is fully accessible for collection. Trees buried in snowbanks will not be collected.
- Christmas trees set out in plastic bags will not be collected.
- Trees must be set out by 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection date, but no earlier than 7 p.m. the evening before your collection date.
