Business Count returns to Durham Region

Whitby, Ontario – Businesses in Durham Region should expect a knock on their door this spring/summer, as part of an annual Regional project to gather employment statistics and build a stronger local economy. The Regional Municipality of Durham, Planning and Economic Development Department, is conducting its sixth Business Count—a survey of local businesses that gathers statistics about their operations.

Between May and August, the Region’s Business Count team is scheduled to visit each and every business establishment in Durham Region, to gather basic information about the type and nature of the company, the number of employees, plans for growth, floor space and location. The Business Count team will be recognizable by their navy blue Region of Durham shirts and photo ID cards.

“Now in its sixth year, the Business Count has allowed us to collect valuable data, helping us to improve the effective and efficient delivery of municipal services,” says Brian Bridgeman, Commissioner of Planning and Economic Development. “The information collected through this initiative allows us to assist local businesses in reaching their goals, while also helping to build a stronger local economy.”

Data collected through the Business Count will be used for municipal planning and analysis purposes and to update regional and municipal business directories. Businesses are encouraged to utilize the online directory www.investdurham.ca to “look local first” when seeking out new suppliers.

In addition to in-person visits, businesses also have the option to conveniently complete an online survey by visiting www.durham.ca/businesscount. Home businesses and farms are also encouraged to participate by completing the survey online.
