Can you imagine a day without water?
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is taking part in the US Water Alliance worldwide day of education and advocacy to recognize the true value of water and the need for innovative solutions to help solve water-related challenges in communities worldwide.
In recognition of Imagine a Day Without Water, the Region is holding a drawing challenge for Durham residents 18 years of age and under. Draw or paint a picture of what water means to you and your family. Your creation may be featured in a Regional Water report! For contest details and rules, visit durham.ca/WaterChallenge.
Our municipal water supply is clean and safe, thanks to the underground infrastructure in Durham Region that brings clean water to homes and businesses—24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. However, there is a crucial need for investment in our water infrastructure systems. Continued investment in repair, refurbishment and expansion of our drinking water and wastewater infrastructure systems is vital. The challenges our drinking water and wastewater systems face are multi-faceted. Flooding, infrastructure failure, age and climate change are just a few of the issues stressing our municipal water and wastewater systems.
