Celebrate local agriculture at the Durham Farm Connections Open House
Whitby, Ontario – Residents are invited to attend the Durham Farm Connections Open House, an interactive way to learn about agriculture in Durham Region.
When: Wednesday, April 5 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Luther Vipond Memorial Arena, 67 Winchester Rd., Brooklin
Why: The Durham Farm Connections Open House provides attendees with an opportunity to learn about agriculture through various stations, including meeting with local farmers and their livestock; as well as learning about dairy, beef, pork, poultry, sheep, land stewardship, vegetables and crops.
This family friendly event also encourages participants to learn about the ways in which food is produced, as well as gain a better understanding of where their food comes from.
Cow milking, sheep shearing and cheese making demonstrations will take place throughout the evening.
Note: The Durham Farm Connections primary program, now in its 12th year, is an agriculture education program that meets Ontario curriculum requirements. It has been recognized with an Ontario Premier’s Award for Agri-food Innovation Excellence, as well as a Watershed Award from the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA).
Admission to the event is free, but donations of non-perishable food items will be gratefully accepted on behalf of the local food bank.
