Chair Henry proclaims October 22 as Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day

Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

“Today, I’m proclaiming October 22 as Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day in Durham Region.

This is a day to recognize the important role Child Care Workers and Early Childhood Educators play to support children’s well-being and development; while building strong, trusting and supportive relationships with children and families in Durham.

Throughout COVID-19, Child Care Workers and Early Childhood Educators have faced many challenges—from facility closures to extended hours of work. During the early stages of the pandemic, our Children Services Division took swift action to provide continued support and education through interactive videos, phone calls and so much more.

I want to extend a special thank you, on behalf of the Region of Durham and the Durham community, to our Child Care Workers and Early Childhood Educators for all of their hard work, commitment and dedication to our youth.

Thank you for everything you do and for helping to keep our kids Durham Strong.”
