Chair Henry reminds residents to prevent the spread of COVID-19 this Thanksgiving
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“COVID-19 has been hard on all of us, in many different ways. And while Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for friends and families from different households to come together, share a meal and give thanks, we are urging you to celebrate differently this year.
As COVID-19 is actively circulating in our community in this second wave, we need your help to prevent the spread by celebrating only with those in your household. The Province has recently paused social circles, and we stand behind this recommendation to limit the spread of COVID-19 as much as possible.
It’s important that we all continue to follow best public health practices during this time as well, such as wearing a mask, physically distancing with those outside of your household, frequently washing your hands, prioritizing trips out of the house and staying home when you are sick.
We all have a responsibility to one another as a community. And while I fully appreciate the desire to see friends and family, now is not the time. Let’s continue to showcase what makes us Durham strong by working together to combat this virus.
Please, continue to make informed decisions, and make sure you are always looking out for the health and safety of yourself, your family and your neighbours.
We will get through this together, and together we remain #DurhamStrong.”
