Chair Henry welcomes Province of Ontario’s 2021 Fall Economic Statement
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“Durham Region is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Ontario. New families have chosen to call it home. New entrepreneurs see it as the best place to launch their dreams. It has a reputation as one of the best places to be in this country.
Keeping up with the pace of growth is important. Without the necessary infrastructure, communities can become limited in how much they can thrive. For Durham Region, it’s important to see investment in long-term care, public health, transit, infrastructure, investment attraction, auto manufacturing and other industries.
It’s about protecting the progress our community has made in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yesterday, the Province of Ontario outlined its fall economic outlook. A plan that lays out how provincial partners plan to build the foundation for Ontario’s recovery and outline a road map towards returned prosperity.
I am pleased to see investment in many shared priorities such as long-term care, public health, transit, building critical infrastructure, attracting increased investment, restoring leadership in auto manufacturing and other industries, especially in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the funding was allocated for other municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area, it is still considered to be a major boost to the municipal sector as a whole. A rising tide lifts all ships.
Moving forward, Durham Region continues to partner with the province; working together to ensure that our community remains one of the best places to live, work, play and grow in Ontario. It’s the way to realizing the vision we all have for Durham. A place where the economy is stronger and more resilient than ever. A quality life that is second to none. A place where imagination is driving the future.
I am confident that future funding from the province will allow us to maintain our meaningful partnership and to realize our vision of a better Durham for all.”
