Changes to blue box collection and waste management facility hours due to Canada Day
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham advises residents of changes to scheduled curbside blue box collection, as well as Regional Waste Management Facilities hours, in observance of the Canada Day holiday.
When: Monday, July 3 to Saturday, July 8
Where: Residents of the City of Oshawa and the Town of Whitby only will temporarily have their blue box collection moved to the next day. This means that blue box collection scheduled for Monday, July 3 will be moved to Tuesday, July 4. This shift will continue throughout the week, ending with collection scheduled for Friday, July 7 being moved to Saturday, July 8.
Regional Waste Management Facilities in Brock, Scugog and Oshawa, as well as the Household Special Waste Depot in Clarington, will be closed Saturday, July 1. Regular operations will resume Tuesday, July 4.
Why: In observance of the July 1 statutory holiday.
Note: Residents are reminded to have waste materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of collection. Garbage and green bin collection for Oshawa and Whitby residents is the responsibility of the individual municipalities, not the Region of Durham. Residents are asked to check their waste calendars or contact their local area municipality regarding the collection of these items.
Residents are encouraged to download the Durham Region Waste and Whitby Waste Buddy Apps to access waste management information. The apps provide residents with customized collection schedules, reminders about collection days, Know Before You Throw search tool and service alerts. The apps are available on Google Play or in the App Store and are free to download.
