Changes to curbside waste collection and waste management facility hours due to statutory holiday
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham advises residents of changes to scheduled curbside waste collection, as well as Regional Waste Management Facilities hours, in observance of the statutory holiday.
When: Friday, July 1.
Where: Durham Region (across all eight local area municipalities).
All residents with curbside collection scheduled for Friday, July 1, will temporarily have their collection moved to Saturday, July 2.
Regional Waste Management Facilities in Brock, Scugog and Oshawa, as well as the Household Special Waste Depot in Clarington, will be closed Friday, July 1. Regular operations will resume Saturday, July 2.
Why: In observance of the July 1 statutory holiday.
Note: Residents are reminded to have waste materials at the curb by 7 a.m., on the day of collection. Garbage and green bin collection for Oshawa and Whitby residents is the responsibility of the individual municipalities, not the Region of Durham. Residents are asked to check their waste calendars or contact their local area municipality regarding the collection of these items.
Please also be advised that Durham Region continues to experience yard waste collection delays in the Town of Ajax, Township of Brock, Municipality of Clarington, City of Pickering, Township of Scugog and Township of Uxbridge. These delays are caused by an industry-wide labour shortage of truck drivers across Canada, which has impacted the Region’s contractors who provide waste collection services.
Durham Region’s priority is to provide daily collection of our core services including Blue Box recycling, Green Bin organics and garbage. Collection of these services is extending into the evening hours, often until 8 p.m. Residents are asked to continue placing yard waste out for collection on regularly scheduled days and, if not collected, to leave it at the curb until it is collected.
