Changes to Regional services in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of impacts to Regional programs and services on September 29 and 30 in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
When and Where: The following programs and/or services will be unavailable:
Friday, September 29
- All services at Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby, including provincial courts; Ontario Works Office; and Children’s Services Fee Subsidy Program.
- All Family Services Durham locations.
- Ontario Works offices in Ajax, Uxbridge and Oshawa (both locations).
- Adult Day Programs at Lakeview Manor in Beaverton and Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa.
- The Waste Management Centre in Whitby (new and replacement blue boxes and green bins).
- Health Department programs and services, including:
- Services at Consumers Drive in Whitby and Perry Street in Port Perry.
- Oral Health Clinic in Oshawa.
- Sexual health clinics at the Oshawa Centre and Pickering Town Centre.
- Breastfeeding Clinic at the Whitby Mall.
- Immunization Clinics.
Saturday, September 30
- All waste management facilities in Oshawa, Scugog and Brock; and the Clarington Household Special Waste Depot.
Why: In observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Note: There will be no impacts to waste collection services, Durham Region Transit service, or Regional Early Learning and Child Care programs.
Ontario Works (OW) recipients: monthly cheque pick up is Thursday, September 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as OW offices in Durham Region will be closed on Friday, September 29 in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. OW recipients with direct bank deposit and reloadable payment card will receive their social assistance payment on Friday, September 29.
The Port Perry Adult Day Program (451 Paxton Street) will remain closed on Fridays.
