Changes to the waste collection schedule for Easter holidays
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to remind residents of changes to scheduled curbside waste collection due to the upcoming Easter holidays.
Where: Residents of Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Pickering, Scugog and Uxbridge who have Green Bin, Blue Box or garbage collection scheduled for Friday, April 14 (Good Friday) will have their waste collected on Saturday, April 15.
Oshawa and Whitby residents with Blue Box collection scheduled for Friday, April 14 (Good Friday) will have their recyclables collected on Saturday, April 15. In addition, Blue Box collection scheduled for Monday, April 17 (Easter Monday) will be moved to Tuesday, April 18. This shift will continue throughout the week, ending with Friday, April 21 collections being moved to Saturday, April 22 in the City of Oshawa and the Town of Whitby only. Garbage and Green Bin collection for Oshawa and Whitby residents is the responsibility of the individual municipalities, not the Region of Durham. These residents are asked to check their waste calendars, or contact their local municipality, regarding collection of these items during the Easter weekend.
Also in observance of the Easter Weekend, the Region of Durham’s waste management facilities and Waste Management Call Centre will be closed Friday, April 14 through Monday, April 17. The household hazardous waste depot in Pickering will be open on Saturday, April 15, however it will be closed Friday, April 14; Sunday, April 16; and Monday, April 17.
Why: These changes are taking place in observance of Good Friday and Easter Monday.
