Come on in, Durham’s farm gates open in just two days!

Whitby, Ontario – The Gates Open: Find Your Flavour Tour is just days away! On Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Durham Farm Fresh Marketing Association and Durham Region’s Economic Development and Tourism Division invite you to a day of harvest fun, culinary delights and learning on the farm.

“Our farm families are excited for you to visit some amazing farms at one of Durham Region’s most anticipated farm events!” said Brandon Pickard, Manager of Tourism. "Each farm will showcase the best that they have to offer–sharing the passion and dedication they bring to farming and their commitment to local food."

“On a crisp fall day there’s no better way to learn about agriculture, taste the season’s bounty and have some simple ‘Farm Fresh’ fun with your kids!” said Tracey Werry, Project Co-ordinator, Durham Farm Fresh Marketing Association.

Even more farm families have joined the event. Several Durham Region farms are opening their gates for this free, region-wide farm tour celebrating Durham’s natural resources. Enjoy this self-guided tour where you’ll learn about farm life; watch farm demonstrations; take part in fun family friendly activities; and have a chance to sample (or purchase) farm fresh products and treats at:

• Lunar Rhythm Gardens (Janetville)
• Nature’s Bounty (Port Perry)
• Ocala Winery (Port Perry)
• Willowtree Farm (Port Perry)
• Wool 4 Ewe Fiber Mill (Nestleton Station)

You choose which farms to visit. On GatesOpen.ca you’ll find an overview of the farms, a helpful passport to plan your route, and Gates Open Need-To-Knows. Rubber boots and coolers? Check. Pets? Please leave Rover at home for the day! This event is made possible with funding from the Greenbelt Foundation, which supports awareness of the Greenbelt’s agricultural and natural systems, cultural heritage and rural economy.
