COVID-19 booster doses now available for Durham Region youth 12 to 17
Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department has now expanded eligibility for booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine for youth 12 to 17-years old, as announced by the Ontario Ministry of Health. Individuals 12 to 17-years old will now be able to receive a third dose booster at least 168 days after they received their second dose of a two-dose primary series.
In addition, youth 12 to 17-years old who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are recommended to receive a three-dose primary series and are eligible to receive a fourth dose booster at least 168 days after receiving their third dose. Appointments can be booked at durham.ca/vaccineappointment or by calling 1-888-444-5113. Walk-ins are welcome.
A longer 168-day interval for the booster dose is recommended for this age group. This interval may be associated with a lower risk of myocarditis and pericarditis. With informed consent, all individuals 12 to 17-years old may receive a booster dose at a minimum of 84 days after completion of a primary COVID-19 vaccine series.
There are many opportunities for eligible Durham Region residents to receive their first, second or third dose of COVID-19 vaccine, including at participating pharmacies, select health care providers and at Durham Region community immunization clinics.
To book an appointment, visit durham.ca/vaccineappointment or call 1-888-444-5113. For a list of clinics and hours of operation or for more information on COVID-19 vaccines in Durham Region, visit durham.ca/covidvaccines.
