Crossrides are in your community to increase cyclist safety
Whitby, Ontario – As part of our commitment to Durham Vision Zero, The Regional Municipality of Durham is making bicycle crossings easier for cyclists, drivers and pedestrians by installing crossrides on cycling routes at designated intersections.
Where: Crossrides are installed where multi-use paths cross public roads. New installations on-going.
Why: A crossride is dedicated space at an intersection where cyclists can ride their bicycle through the intersection, indicated by unique white block markings. Crossrides are similar to crosswalks, but where crosswalks are only designed for pedestrians, crossrides consider both pedestrians and cyclists. Cyclists are able to ride through crossrides, whereas crosswalks require cyclists to dismount when crossing.

This initiative is in support of Durham Vision Zero, a long-term, multi-agency strategy to create safer roads for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. Learn more at durham.ca/VisionZero.
