Decision meeting for Protected Major Transit Station Areas Amendment
Whitby, Ontario – As part of Envision Durham, the Region of Durham is recommending an amendment to the Regional Official Plan to implement policies that support transit-oriented development within Protected Major Transit Station Areas (PMTSAs) across the region. PMTSAs are the area within an approximate 500 to 800 metre radius of a transit station, representing a 10 minute walk.
When: A virtual decision meeting will take place on December 7 at 9:30 a.m. to offer interested parties with the opportunity to provide Durham’s Planning & Economic Development Committee feedback relative to the recommended amendment. For information about how to submit written correspondence, make a delegation before committee or to view the livestream, visit durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
Why: The recommended PMTSA policies and delineations are intended to support intensification and transit-oriented development. Undertaking this amendment is in accordance with the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe and the Planning Act. The Region has decided to advance this amendment to the Regional Official Plan to define and plan for PMTSAs in advance of the balance of its overall municipal comprehensive review.
Note: As Council’s core planning document, the Regional Official Plan guides Regional decision-making on long-term growth and development.
Envision Durham is an opportunity to deliver a new forward-looking official plan that will guide growth and change in Durham in the years ahead, providing the blueprint for Durham to become known as the place to live, learn and thrive by 2051.
