Distribution of December social assistance cheques
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising Ontario Works (OW) clients who normally receive their monthly payments by mail to pick up their December social assistance cheque at their local OW office.
When: December social assistance cheques will be available for pick up at local OW offices effective Wednesday, November 28 at 11 a.m.; and on subsequent days during regular business hours, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where: Durham Region, local Ontario Works’ offices.
Why: As a result of the rotating labour distruption involving Canada Post workers, social assistance cheques for the month of December will not be mailed out.
Note: In order to pick up your cheque, two valid forms of identification are required. If you are unable to pick up your cheque, someone else can pick it up on your behalf. However, a valid form of your identification, and signed consent allowing this person to pick up your cheque (to be kept on file), will need to be provided. In addition, the person picking up your cheque must have their own valid form of identification.
Individuals receiving OW payments through direct deposit will receive payment, into a bank account, as usual.
Please note: clients are still required to report income changes, and changes to their circumstances, to their caseworker.
