Draft new Regional Official Plan available for public review and feedback
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has released the draft new Regional Official Plan (ROP), which is the culmination of work completed through Envision Durham, the Municipal Comprehensive Review (MCR) of Durham’s existing ROP. The draft new ROP provides policies and strategic directions that guide future growth, infrastructure and service delivery, land use planning, and development related matters. A Public Open House and a Public Meeting will be held to provide residents the opportunity to learn more and provide their feedback.
When and where:
Public Open House
The in-person Public Open House will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 6 at Regional Headquarters (605 Rossland Road East, Whitby) in the main atrium of the first floor.
Residents interested in attending the Public Open House can visit durham.ca/EnvisionDurham for more information and to complete the registration form.
Public Meeting
The hybrid Public Meeting will be held on March 7 and is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. during the Planning and Economic Development Committee meeting. Residents can attend the hybrid Public Meeting, in-person at Regional Headquarters Council Chambers (605 Rossland Road East, Whitby) or remotely via livestream at durham.ca/Live.
Those wishing to make a delegation in-person at the Public Meeting are encouraged to register in advance by emailing EnvisionDurham@durham.ca providing their name, address, email and who they represent. However, in-person delegations will be permitted to speak without prior registration. Those who wish to delegate virtually must register in advance by submitting requests in writing to delegations@durham.ca by noon on March 6.
To provide input on the draft new ROP and an online map viewer of the Regional Structure available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham, submit comments via mail or by emailing EnvisionDurham@durham.ca. Input on the draft new ROP document, including draft mapping, is requested by April 3.
Why: The Public Open House will provide the public with the opportunity to ask questions, discuss the draft new ROP and provide comments and information to staff.
The Public Meeting and subsequent online feedback options will provide residents with the opportunity to make a submission to Durham’s Planning and Economic Development Committee related to the draft new ROP.
