Durham Region asks residents to consider how to overcome ageism with Beauty of Experience campaign
Whitby, Ontario – In honour of Seniors Month, this June the Region of Durham in partnership with the Durham Council on Aging has launched a campaign designed to spark awareness of ageism across the lifespan. This is an extension of the Beauty of Experience Campaign from December 2020 and celebrates the amazing contributions that residents of all ages make.
Through volunteering, working, supporting friends and family, sharing words of wisdom and more, we all help to make our communities great. However, ageism continues to exist and take many forms throughout one’s lifespan.
Residents are encouraged to learn from each other and value the beauty of experience together.
When: During the month of June.
Where: Learn more about the Beauty of Experience campaign at durham.ca/AgeFriendly.
Why: Durham Region supports an inclusive community and is proud to offer vibrant, diverse neighbourhoods with residents who speak almost every language, represent nearly every culture, and make up every age group. Let’s challenge ageism and stereotypes; and make sure everyone has a seat at the table.
As part of the campaign, a video was developed to celebrate contributions that residents of all ages make to Durham Region. The video can be viewed by visiting durham.ca/AgeFriendly.
