Durham Region celebrates Canada Water Week
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department is lighting our Regional Headquarters in blue all week to celebrate Canada Water Week (March 17 to 23) and World Water Day (March 22).
“Canada Water Week and World Water Day provide an important reminder on how fortunate we are to have a clean, secure and convenient supply of drinking water,” says John Presta, Director of Environmental Services. “Residents can help protect this valuable environmental resource for the coming generations with effective water conservation today.”
Municipal drinking water in Durham Region is regulated for both quality and quantity. To learn more about how the Region ensures industry leading wastewater treatment, check out our Water Champions video series.
Ensuring a clean, safe supply of water is complicated and costly. Municipal water and sanitary sewer services are paid for by user rates; they are not funded by property taxes. Investing in our infrastructure is important to protect this vital and limited resource. Water conservation is also crucial to help extend the life of Durham's municipal water infrastructure. For easy-to-follow water conservation tips around the home, residents are urged to check out the Be Water Smart video series at durham.ca/WaterEfficiency.
In recognition of Canada Water Week, Durham Region has proclaimed March 17 to 23 as Water Week to remind residents about the value of water. Canada Water Week is an annual celebration of water. For more information, visit www.CanadaWaterWeek.com.
