Durham Region celebrates International Women’s Day
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“Today (March 8), is International Women’s Day in Durham Region and around the world. This global movement celebrates the outstanding contributions and achievements of all women. It recognizes the progress we have made in advancing gender equality, while acknowledging that there is still work to be done.
This year’s theme is Inspire Inclusion. It emphasizes the critical impact that the inclusion of all women plays in all aspects of our lives. Reminding us that women offer diverse perspectives, expertise, leadership and unique personal experiences, which bring substantial value to our communities. It’s important to bring attention to the fact that each of us has a role to play in creating the welcoming region that we strive for—a place that supports gender inclusion and celebrates unique identities, free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
When we inspire others to recognize and value women’s inclusion, we are shaping a society with a brighter future; a Durham Region where women are empowered, celebrated, and actively contribute to the success and well-being of our communities.
On behalf of the Region of Durham, I would like to share my appreciation of Durham’s numerous women employees, including our seven Regional Councillors, Chief Administrative Officer, and three department heads, who continue to drive leadership, innovation and service excellence in Durham.
Today and beyond, I encourage you to celebrate the women in your life; and join the conversation of how you can support and empower women everywhere.”
