Durham Region celebrates Recreation and Parks Month with a passport adventure initiative
The passport provides an opportunity for residents to explore a variety of activities across Durham Region, with the chance to win a new bike which can be used to cycle the region’s many trails. Residents can download a digital copy of the passport by visiting durhamtourism.ca/RecAndParksMonth.
The passport adventure initiative aims to promote an active and healthy lifestyle by offering area residents the opportunity to discover events and activities in Durham Region throughout the month of June and to participate in a variety of activities. Residents are encouraged to attend at least three free events across the region to qualify for the grand prize of a new bike.
The theme of Recreation and Parks Month is, “Community Thrives Here”, highlighting that recreation and parks bring communities together. Visiting parks and participating in recreational activities help Ontarians enhance their quality of life through connecting them with their community and encouraging active lifestyles.
“Recreation and Parks Month is a great opportunity for residents to engage with their community and get active,” said Tara Wheeler, a public health nurse with Durham Region Health Department. “We’re thrilled to partner with our local area municipalities and Durham Tourism to promote a wide range of activities for everyone. There are several great kick-off events planned for this Saturday, June 1, so download your passport today.
“The passport helps residents discover new activities across the region that promote physical and mental well-being. Not only do you have the chance to win prizes, but you’re also helping to build a stronger, healthier community. You can also log your activities and help your community to be named, Canada’s most active community.”
