Durham Region Film Office hosts locations seminar for local property owners

Whitby, Ontario – The Durham Region Film Office recently hosted the Film Durham: Locations Seminar to educate local home owners and business operators about listing and marketing their properties as potential filming locations. Topics covered included marketing locations, scouting and site visits, preparing for the production community and much more.

“Durham has a unique mix of landscapes and sites that attract producers. As a result, we’ve seen a growing demand for more filming in the region,” says Simon Gill, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “Film Durham is developing resources and education, such as this seminar, to foster partnerships and create more opportunities for film production in Durham.”

The seminar outlined the process for listing properties in the Film Durham and Ontario Creates digital location libraries, and featured a panel discussion with location managers and film professionals. Keynote speakers from Film Durham and Ontario Creates highlighted the important role that Durham Region plays in Ontario’s film and television industry.

The Durham Region Film Office, also known as “Film Durham,” is a member of the Association of Film Commissioners International, operating within the Region’s Planning and Economic Development Department, with the goal of attracting film-related investment to the region.

With production activity in the region totalling $37.1 million in 2017, the film industry is making a positive economic impact across Durham. Film Durham offers a number of resources about this growing industry, including a complete Guide to Filming in Durham Region and a Film Durham–Digital Locations Portal–an online resource, which showcases the excellent film locations that the region has to offer, and features location tours and information on productions shot in Durham.
