I’m pleased to share that Durham Region Health Department is supporting families in the region with a new web page for the Healthy Babies Healthy Children program-- offering residents access to resources, information and a new self-referral tool. The website and self referral option allows families to learn about the Healthy Babies Healthy Children program while giving them a seamless process for accessing support. Healthy Babies Healthy Children is a free, voluntary program for families that supports eligible expectant parents or those who are raising children, up to the age of school entry. For eligible families, this may include a referral to our home visiting program. Families that qualify are paired with a public health nurse and family visitor to set goals and a create a personalized plan together. Visit durham.ca/HBHC to learn more about the many services and resources available for you and your child in the community. You’ll also find tips on having a healthy pregnancy and birth, connecting with your baby, breastfeeding and nutrition, and taking care of yourself and your child. We are also supporting families through our Infant & Child Development program, another free and voluntary home visiting program available to families who have a concern about their child’s development. This program provides early intervention support for children between the ages of birth to school entry. Consultants work with families by offering informal and formal assessments, family coaching and modelling, routine-based strategies, resource information and service coordination to community partners.
