Durham Region recognizes Easter
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“This Sunday (April 9) and next Sunday (April 16), members of the Christian and Orthodox Christian faith all over the world will celebrate Easter, a day to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. These dates signify the single most important holy day for Christians of all denominations. For many, it will also mark the end of the Lenten season.
Recognizing significant dates, such as these, foster a sense of belonging and celebrate the traditions that bring people together. We are proud to be a region that is building safe and welcoming communities where diverse cultures are embraced, and each one of us is valued and included.
Whether attending religious services, gathering with family or friends, celebrating over a shared meal or exchanging gifts, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all those celebrating both Easter and Orthodox Easter in the coming weekends.”
