Durham Region seeks input on alternative land need scenarios
Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham has released the Alternative Land Need Scenarios Assessment Summary Report and launched a survey to invite feedback from residents and stakeholders.
The alternative land need scenarios are a component of the Land Needs Assessment (LNA). The LNA is the first part of Durham Region’s Growth Management Study (GMS) under Envision Durham, which is the Municipal Comprehensive Review of the Regional Official Plan. The preparation of a LNA is to quantify the amount of Settlement Area Boundary Expansion that will be required to accommodate future population and employment growth to the year 2051.
Why: As part of the LNA, Durham Region has identified alternative land need scenarios that present a range of growth options to inform decisions on how the Region should grow to 2051. These alternative land need scenarios explore how housing, population and employment growth could be accommodated across the Region.
What: The public feedback survey on the alternative land need scenarios is based on the discussion and analysis included with the Alternative Land Need Scenarios Assessment Summary Report available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
When: Feedback on the alternative land need scenarios is requested by April 14.
Where: To provide input on the alternative land need scenarios, fill out the survey at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
A virtual Public Information Centre will be held on March 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., which will feature a presentation and the opportunity to ask questions about the alternative land need scenarios. To register, please visit durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
Note: As Durham Regional Council’s core planning document, the Regional Official Plan guides decision-making on long-term growth and development.
Envision Durham is an opportunity to deliver a new forward-looking official plan that will guide growth and change in Durham in the years ahead – providing the blueprint for Durham to become known as the place to live, learn and thrive by 2051.
