Durham Region supports 2SLGBTQI+ communities and champions equity and acceptance for all
Whitby, Ontario – The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:
“Today (September 20), we take this opportunity to reinforce our support to our local 2SLGBTQI+ communities and school boards in light of today’s planned protests across Canada.
In Durham Region, we strive to create safe, respectful and inclusive communities where everyone is welcomed and is valued for who they are.
It is important that Durham Region is a place where diversity is embraced; having a sense of belonging is critical to our personal and collective success. We acknowledge the diverse and intersectional identities within 2SLGBTQI+ communities and will continue to champion equity and acceptance of everyone.
We stand by 2SLGBTQI+ communities and are reaffirming our commitment to fostering a more equitable and inclusive community for all residents of Durham Region.”
