Durham Regional Council adopts new Regional Official Plan
Whitby, ON – Durham Regional Council adopted the Regional Municipality of Durham’s new Regional Official Plan (ROP), as amended, on Wednesday, May 17. The new ROP is the culmination of work completed through Envision Durham, the Municipal Comprehensive Review of Durham’s existing ROP.
The adopted ROP provides policies and strategic directions that guide future growth, infrastructure and service delivery, land use planning and development related matters to ensure an improved quality of life – to secure health, safety, convenience, and well-being of present and future residents of Durham.
The adopted ROP and background materials are available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham. The adopted ROP will also be available for viewing at the public front counter of Durham Regional Headquarters (605 Rossland Road East, Whitby) Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The adopted ROP will now be forwarded to the province for approval. The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing is the approval authority for the new ROP under sections 17 and 26 of the Planning Act. Anybody is entitled to receive notice of the Minister’s decision regarding the new ROP, if a written request containing the person’s or public body’s address is made to the Minister.
