Durham Regional Council appoints members to Strategic Plan Development Task Force
Whitby, Ontario – On Friday, Regional Council appointed four of its members to participate on the Region of Durham’s Strategic Plan Development Task Force. The formation of the task force is the first step in the strategic planning process. Regional Council appointed Councillors Tito-Dante Marimpietri (Oshawa), David Pickles (Pickering), Elizabeth Roy (Whitby) and Wilma Wotten (Scugog) to join the Chief Administrative Officer and one Department Head, who will act as employee representatives, as part of the task force guiding the process of developing a new Durham Region Strategic Plan.
“The development of a new Strategic Plan will give the public a voice in the direction of the organization, and identify important issues, opportunities and common priorities,” said Elaine Baxter-Trahair, Chief Administrative Officer. “There has been considerable change across Durham Region since 2015 when the last strategic plan was developed. A new plan is needed to ensure we as a Region are focused and productive on the things that matter most to our community, and to position Durham as leaders in areas such as emerging technologies, innovation and service delivery.”
Strategic planning is a process of reflection, discussion, community building and setting priorities. It is the process that the Region of Durham will use to define its overarching direction and strategy, set goals and develop the steps necessary to achieve those goals. It will allow Regional Council, employees, area municipalities, key partners and clients, as well as Durham residents to define a vision and set of strategic priorities for Durham Region.
Information about the new strategic plan, including public consultation sessions, will be posted on durham.ca once available.
