Durham Regional Council holds first meeting of the 2022 to 2026 term
Whitby, Ontario – Today, The Regional Municipality of Durham held its inaugural Council meeting, all 29 elected representatives have been officially sworn in for the 2022 to 2026 term of Durham Regional Council.
Regional Chair
John Henry was sworn in as Regional Chair, representing just over 700,000 residents who live in Durham Region. Henry is the head of Durham Regional Council and Chief Executive Officer of the Region; presides over all meetings of Regional Council; is a member of all standing committees; promotes and advances the Regional position on a wide variety of matters; represents Durham Region on various boards, committees and organizations; and undertakes other significant duties.
Members of Council
In addition to the Regional Chair, there are 28 members of Durham Regional Council who were elected within the eight area municipalities. This includes each mayor, who automatically becomes a Regional Councillor. Regional Council is composed of:
- Four members from the Town of Ajax
- Two members from the Township of Brock
- Three members from the Municipality of Clarington
- Six members from the City of Oshawa
- Four members from the City of Pickering
- Two members from the Township of Scugog
- Two members from the Township of Uxbridge
- Five members from the Town of Whitby
- The Regional Chair.
