Durham Region’s Smoking and Vaping By-law comes into effect September 16

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department advises residents that effective September 16, 2019, the Region’s new Smoking and Vaping By-law, which regulates smoking in public places and workplaces, will prohibit all smoking and vaping anywhere on Regional property, including in personal vehicles.

When: September 16, 2019.

Where: Regionally owned and leased properties. For leased properties where the Region is not the only tenant, no smoking or vaping is permitted within nine metres of any Regional entrance, exit or air intake.  

Why: Compliance with the Smoking and Vaping By-law.

Note: As a result of the new by-law, the smoking and vaping area at Regional Headquarters will be decommissioned, also effective September 16. For more information on the by-law, visit www.durham.ca/By-laws.
