Eligible families can receive up to $2,000 for post-secondary education
Whitby, Ontario – Eligible families in Durham Region can receive up to $2,000 from the Government of Canada for their child’s post-secondary education.
To qualify for the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) benefit:
- The household income must be less than $49,000 per year.
- The child must be born in 2004 or later.
- As of 2022, CLB-eligible youth who are 18 years of age must apply for the CLB themselves.
The benefit is deposited directly into a Registered Education Savings Plan for the child.

Why: Research indicates that children with education savings are more likely to attend and graduate post-secondary school. The CLB helps families begin to save for their child’s education, with no personal deposit required.
