Emergency child care continues in Durham Region
Whitby, Ontario – Emergency child care for school-aged children has been extended by the Province of Ontario, as Durham Region elementary schools remain closed for in-person learning.
Eligible health care and front-line workers, who have no alternatives, may continue to access this free care, until in-person learning resumes. Emergency child care enables eligible health care and front-line workers to provide critical services, while Registered Early Childhood Educators support school-aged children with online learning.
Before and after school programs will remain closed. Licensed home child care and child care for children in infant, toddler, and pre-school programs remain open. Standard fees apply.
As per public health guidance, additional health and safety measures will be implemented. This includes updated guidance on masks—for children in Grade 1 and above—and additional guidance on screening.
The Region of Durham remains committed to the health and safety of children, parents and staff. Emergency child care centres follow mandated policies and procedures to help reduce the risk of transmission.
