Envision Durham’s Housing Policy Planning Discussion Paper open for input
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham’s Planning Division has released its Housing Policy Planning Discussion Paper. This paper is the final paper to be released during the “Discuss” stage of Envision Durham’s public engagement program, and we need your input. Public input continues to be integral to the success of this project. We want to hear from you.
What: The Housing Policy Planning Discussion Paper provides an overview of Durham’s current Regional Official Plan (ROP) policy framework; identifies provincial policy requirements and trends since the last ROP review; and identifies preliminary approaches and questions for discussion and feedback as it relates to housing choice and affordability in Durham.
When: The Housing Policy Planning Discussion Paper is available for public input from December 3, 2019 to March 2, 2020 (a 90-day commenting period).
Where: Join the conversation by visiting durham.ca/EnvisionDurham to share your comments on the Housing Policy Planning Discussion Paper.
Why: Envision Durham is the Region’s Municipal Comprehensive Review of the Durham Regional Official Plan. It is an opportunity to plan for change, by replacing the current ROP and establishing a progressive and forward-looking planning vision for the region to 2041.
As Council’s core planning document, guiding Regional decision-making on long-term growth and development, the ROP provides policies to ensure an improved quality of life. Our vision is to create healthy and complete, sustainable communities within the region, and shape Durham into a great place to live, work, play, grow and invest.
Note: Throughout 2019, discussion papers were released on the Agriculture & Rural System; Climate Change & Sustainability; Growth Management–Urban System; the Environment & Greenlands System; and the Transportation System. Interested parties will have future opportunities to provide further feedback on proposed policy directions and a future draft of the Regional Official Plan.
