Flooding closes Brock Street South/Water Street in Whitby
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department is advising residents of localized flooding conditions on some Regional roads due to recent heavy rains. As a precautionary measure, Brock Street South/Water Street in Whitby has been closed.
When: Brock Street South/Water Street will remain closed until further notice.
Where: Brock Street South/Water Street (Regional Road 46), from Front Street to 350 metres south of the Brock Street bridge, in the Town of Whitby. Localized flooding conditions are also occurring on other Regional roads due to recent heavy rains; drivers and cyclists are advised to drive safely and according to the road conditions.
Note: As lake levels continue to rise, it is anticipated that flooding from the rain and lake will continue to cause localized flooding. Regional staff will continue to monitor Regional roads as long as this condition persists. The maintenance crews from the Works Department work hard to keep roads clear for motorists. Please watch for Works vehicles and remain at a safe distance back. Do not attempt to pass these vehicles, as they may have reduced visibility due to heavy rainfall.
Residents are asked to ensure storm sewer grates near their property are cleared of leaves and debris to help prevent flooding.
