Go from the classroom to CEO with BACD’s Summer Company program
Whitby, Ontario – Make this summer job one of the best ever. The Business Advisory Centre Durham (BACD) is looking for ambitious and aspiring young entrepreneurs to be a part of its Summer Company program.
What: The Summer Company program grants returning students the opportunity to start and operate their own business. Successful applicants get start-up money of up to $3,000 and hands-on training, coaching and mentoring from BACD experts to get their business up and running. The Summer Company program is funded by the province of Ontario and managed in Durham Region by BACD.
Who: You could be eligible if you:
- are between the ages of 15 and 29 years old (a parent or guardian must sign the application for those under 18).
- attend school now and are returning to school in the fall (this includes full-time, part-time, homeschooling, e-learning, distance learning, apprenticeships, trade schools, etc.).
- are starting a new business.
- are not working at another job or attending school for more than 12 hours per week during the program.
- are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident who lives in Ontario.
- did not receive a Summer Company grant in the past.

When: The Summer Company program generally runs from June to Labour Day (Monday, September 1, 2025). Over the program period, students must commit to:
- a minimum of 280 hours if you are a high school student.
- a minimum of 420 hours if you are a post-secondary student.
Why: The Summer Company program offers students an invaluable hands-on experience in entrepreneurship. Participants will launch their own business, craft effective marketing strategies, drive sales, and manage bookkeeping. These essential skills not only give students the full experience of running their own business but also prepare them for future success.
