Health Department providing immunization clinics for students who missed school-based vaccinations
Whitby, Ontario - Durham Region Health Department is announcing the start of catch-up immunization clinics for students in grades 7 to 12 who need immunizations that were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning April 4 and for a limited time, students can receive Hepatitis B, Meningitis, and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) immunizations at community immunization clinics. Clinics will be open at the Oshawa Centre, 419 King St. W. and Pickering SmartCentres, 1899 Brock Rd., Unit C3 locations. Two additional clinics will be located at secondary schools in Brock and Uxbridge.
Appointments are now available for booking at durham.ca/ImmunizationClinics. Students must have an appointment to attend these immunization clinics. Individuals unable to use the online booking system can call 905-668-2020 or 1-888-444-5113 for assistance to book an appointment.
Immunization against Hepatitis B, Meningitis and HPV are safe and effective, and helps protect against these vaccine preventable diseases. Students who previously started a vaccine series will not need to restart the series due to overdue doses.
To keep your child’s immunization record current, it is important to update your child’s status through the Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON) tool at https://drhd.icon.ehealthontario.ca/#!/welcome. During the COVID-19 pandemic, some students may have received one or more of these vaccines through their local health care provider; parents and guardians should update their student’s ICON record online as health care providers do not submit immunization information through this tool.
