Intersection of Thickson Road and Champlain Avenue/Consumers Drive in Whitby closed due to watermain break

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to inform residents that the intersection of Thickson Road and Champlain Avenue/Consumers Drive, in the Town of Whitby, is closed due to a watermain break.

When: Effective immediately. Work to repair the watermain and related damage to the road base and asphalt is expected to take several days. Updates will be provided as more information regarding the extent of the damage is known.

Where: The intersection of Thickson Road and Champlain Avenue/Consumers Drive, in the Town of Whitby, is closed to traffic. Durham Regional Police Service is closing the Highway 401 ramps at the Thickson Road interchange to assist with managing traffic.

Why: To repair a broken watermain and related damage to the road base and asphalt.

Note: The Region realizes that the work is disruptive, and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and the work crews.
