John Henry declared re-elected to the Office of Regional Chair/CEO
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise residents that John Henry has officially been declared re-elected to the Office of Regional Chair/Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Henry will be sworn in during the inaugural council meeting of the 2022 to 2026 term, which is scheduled for Wednesday, November 30 at Regional Headquarters.
First elected as Durham’s Regional Chair/CEO in 2018, John Henry served as the Mayor of Oshawa from 2010 to 2018, and Regional Councillor for Oshawa’s Ward 5 from 2006 to 2010. Throughout these years, Henry served on the Region’s Planning and Economic Development Committee, as Chair of the Durham Region Local Housing Corporation, member of the Durham Region Transit Executive Committee and the Durham Environmental Advisory Committee.
Born and raised in Oshawa, Henry is a local entrepreneur and is a graduate of R.S. McLaughlin C.V.I., Durham College, George Brown College and Panasonic’s Corporate School. He was also trained as an Industrial Fire Fighter, Ice Rescue Specialist and Dive Rescue Specialist (Level 1).
Henry will act as head of Durham Regional Council and CEO of the corporation; he will preside over all meetings of Regional Council; promote and advance the Region’s position on a wide variety of municipal matters; represent Durham Region on various boards, committees and organizations; and undertake other significant duties. He is the sixth person to serve as Regional Chair/CEO, since the Region was formed in 1974.
