Lake Ridge Road construction improving the safety of the roadway

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham has substantially completed the Lake Ridge Road rehabilitation project, and the final completion date is expected by the end of this year, followed by a two-year warranty period. The project improves the overall operational safety of the roadway for users and was partially funded by the Canada Community-Building Fund.

“We’d like to thank local residents and commuters for their patience and understanding as we work to improve the infrastructure on Lake Ridge Road,” says Ramesh Jagannathan, Acting Commissioner of Works. “Lake Ridge Road is part of the Region’s goods movement network, so the rehabilitation of this road helps to support the reliable and efficient movement of goods within and through Durham Region while also supporting the goal of our Durham Vision Zero Strategic Road Safety Action Plan to keep our roads safe for all users.”

The reconstruction of the road included:

• Road resurfacing and partial paved shoulders.
• Addition of northbound right-turn lanes at Townline Road and Chalk Lake Road.
• Addition of a left-turn lane approaching Chalk Lake Road from the south.
• Road grade adjustments.
• Entrance modifications to meet the reconstructed road.
• Culvert replacements.
• Ditch drainage improvements.
• Installation of a guide rail.

• Utility relocations where required.

The boundaries for the reconstruction of Lake Ridge Road are from Myrtle Road to 1.6 kilometres north of Chalk Lake Road. The project is being completed in collaboration with the Town of Whitby, City of Pickering, Township of Scugog and Township of Uxbridge and received funding from the Canada Community-Building Fund.
