Mandatory Water Use Restrictions in the Town of Ajax
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to inform residents and businesses that due to the ongoing repair of a trunk sanitary sewer main in Lord Elgin Park, municipal water supply users in the area east of Harwood Avenue and north of Highway 401 in the Town of Ajax are advised of mandatory water restrictions. Please limit non-essential uses of water including laundry. The Region of Durham is asking customers within these boundaries to conserve water to reduce the flow into the sanitary sewer system.
“Works Department staff are onsite, working to restore sanitary sewage collection now,” explained Susan Siopis, Commissioner of Works. “Residents in the affected area are asked to restrict water and the use of sanitary sewage service until notified by the Region. The Region will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
Lord Elgin Park is closed to the public. All access points to Lord Elgin Park have been restricted with fencing by the Ajax Depot. The park is expected to remain closed at least until the weekend.
The Region apologizes for the inconvenience that some of our customers may experience. Durham Region is committed to protecting the environment and providing clean, safe drinking water.
