National Public Works Week open house May 27
Whitby, Ontario – On Saturday, May 27, Durham Region residents are invited to get a behind-the-scenes look at how public works services impacts our everyday lives.
Durham Region’s National Public Works Week open house is free to attend. See the big-screen traffic monitor where Durham's traffic signals are controlled in real time. Learn about our state-of-the-art traffic signal control system, as well as see first-hand how road signs are made. Staff from various areas of the Works Department, such as Waste Management and Technical Support, will be on hand to educate residents about our programs and services. Visitors will have the opportunity to see Durham’s truck and equipment fleet up close. There will also be activities, games and a face painter for the kids (kids at heart, too)!
When: Saturday, May 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Traffic Operations Centre (101 Consumers Drive, Whitby)
Why: National Public Works Week open house events provide residents with a first-hand look at the Region’s facilities and fleet, while also learning about the many services provided by the Works Department.
Note: Residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to a local food bank.
