New all-way stop at River Street and Church Street intersection in Sunderland
Whitby, Ontario – In support of Durham Vision Zero, the Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of a new all-way stop in the community of Sunderland in the Township of Brock.
When: The new all-way stop is scheduled to be installed December 15. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the installation schedule.
Where: River Street (Regional Road 10) and Church Street in Sunderland.
Why: The new four-way stop will require drivers in all directions to stop their vehicle completely before entering the intersection, yielding to pedestrians in the crosswalk and any traffic in or approaching the intersection. This will improve pedestrian safety by providing a controlled intersection for pedestrians to safely cross.
Note: For the safety of the community, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to use additional caution.
This initiative is in support of Durham Vision Zero, a long-term plan to ensure the safest possible transportation system that sees no lives lost or serious injuries on Durham’s roadways. Learn more at durham.ca/VisionZero.
