New! Household Special Waste Depot Opens in Bowmanville
Residents are encouraged to bring their household hazardous waste (HHW) to the new Household Special Waste Depot located at 1998 Bowmanville Avenue, free of charge! As Clarington continues to grow, the need for Regional services also grows. This new facility was created to better serve our residents and to help them conveniently dispose of their HHW.
Cleaners, leftover paint, old batteries, motor oil, pool chemicals and propane tanks are part of a long list of items classified as household hazardous wastes. If not disposed of properly, they can be harmful to the environment as well as collection and facility workers. Do not put household hazardous waste in your garbage. Drop off HHW at a waste management facility for free.
When dropping off this waste:
- Never mix substances.
- Keep materials in their original container or in a well-marked container.
- All containers should be securely sealed.
- Securely pack materials in your vehicle to prevent spills.
Blue box and green bin sales and exchanges will be available at the new Household Special Waste Depot, as well as the Waste Management Centre in Whitby, located at 4600 Garrard Road North.
This Household Special Waste Depot is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., year-round. For a list of materials accepted, visit durham.ca/WMF.
