Outdoor water restrictions during Port Perry water tower work

Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents and businesses that mandatory water restrictions on all non-essential outdoor water use, will be in effect from September 5 to November 20 for municipal water supply users in Port Perry, within the Township of Scugog. These restrictions are required while staff perform maintenance work on the Port Perry water tower (also referred to as a standpipe).

“We are completing external and internal recoating of the Port Perry water tower. During this work, outdoor water use restrictions will be in effect,” said Susan Siopis, Commissioner of Works. “Special efforts are being made to maintain essential water service during work to recoat the water tower, but some customers may still experience pressure fluctuations. The recoating of the water tower is required to ensure the water storage infrastructure remains in the best condition.”

Water use restrictions are necessary to maintain adequate water levels to deal with emergencies, including fire protection. Residents and businesses are requested to discontinue all non-essential outdoor water use. Examples of non-essential water use include cleaning driveways or decks, washing cars and lawn watering.
