Portion of Celina Street in downtown Oshawa to be closed nightly next week as part of Athol Street construction
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham, in partnership with the City of Oshawa, would like to advise residents of additional traffic restrictions as part of the Athol Street construction project to install new watermains, sewers and a cycle track.
When and where: Celina Street, at the Athol Street intersection, will be closed nightly to through traffic from Monday, March 11 to Saturday, March 16 between the hours 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Additionally, there will be lane restrictions on Simcoe Street South (between Bagot Street and Athol Street) during these same evening hours.
Athol Street, between Centre Street South and Mary Street in the City of Oshawa, continues to be reduced to one-way eastbound traffic only. This project is expected to be complete by August. Unfavourable weather conditions may affect the work schedule.
Why: Overnight work is required to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Durham Region is replacing watermains and sanitary sewers on Athol Street, between Centre Street South and Albert Street. As part of this work, Durham Region is constructing the new Athol Street cycle track on behalf of the City of Oshawa. The cycle track, which will run between Centre and Mary streets, will be separate from the road and sidewalk. The track combines the user experience of a dedicated path with the on-street infrastructure of a conventional bike lane. Learn more at www.oshawa.ca/cycling.
Note: Businesses remain open, and access for local businesses and residents will be maintained at all times. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and construction workers.
