Provide your input on the Climate Change & Sustainability Discussion Paper
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham’s Planning Division has released its Climate Change & Sustainability Discussion Paper. This is the second discussion paper for Envision Durham, the Region’s Municipal Comprehensive Review of the Durham Regional Official Plan (ROP). The public is invited to provide input through a series of discussion questions to help inform the Region’s process.
What: The Climate Change & Sustainability Discussion Paper provides an overview of current climate change policy in the ROP and examines policy considerations that may have a role in supporting climate change adaptation and mitigation.
When: The Climate Change & Sustainability Discussion Paper is available for public input from May 7 to August 5 (a 90-day commenting period).
Where: The Climate Change & Sustainability Discussion Paper is available at durham.ca/EnvisionDurham.
Why: Envision Durham is in the “Discuss” stage of its public engagement program and we need your input. Please consider providing comments on the Climate Change & Sustainability Discussion Paper.
Note: Envision Durham is an opportunity to plan for change, by replacing the current Regional Official Plan (ROP) and establishing a progressive and forward-looking planning vision for the region to 2041. As Council’s core planning document, guiding Regional decision-making on long-term growth and development, the ROP provides policies to ensure an improved quality of life. Our vision is to create healthy and complete, sustainable communities within the region, and shape Durham into a great place to live, work, play, grow and invest.
The first discussion paper (Agriculture & Rural System) was released on March 5 and remains available for public input to June 3. Additional discussion papers on the various components of Growth Management, the Environment & Greenlands System, the Transportation System, and Housing, will be released throughout 2019. Details will be available on our website.
